Careers in Law

A Lawyer is a person who represents clients (individuals or businesses) in the court of law that involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific problems and cases.

A Day in a Lawyer’s Life

Suggest legal remedies and course of action in matters of contention
Represent clients in court and tribunal proceedings
Conduct negotiations on behalf of clients
Present and summarize cases to judges and juries
Analyze the outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents
Interpret laws, rulings and regulations for individuals and businesses
Advise clients regarding legal rights, obligations and claims liability

Strong logical, analytical reasoning and critical thinking skills
Good memory to relate and quote past cases to prove a point

Few colleges have entrance exams (CLAT, LSAT, SET) for admission to their grad and post-grad courses. After Graduation, to become an advocate and practice law, you need to enroll with the local State Bar Council and pass the AIBE Examination.

Salary Expectation

Junior Lawyer can earn Rs. 4000 to Rs. 10000 per month
Private sector may provide more lucrative packages
Corporate Lawyers can earn Rs 15000 to Rs 50000 per month
Independent practice can be most rewarding
Reputed Lawyers can earn Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000 per hour
